Hello Friends,

The BlackBerry Q5 is a ‘budget’ BlackBerry 10 smartphone with a physical QWERTY  keyboard. Designed for both the high-end market and emerging markets such as India, South America and Asia it is a BlackBerry 10 device that has been built to coax those who are already cemented BlackBerry 7 users but needed some persuading. Available in two versions at present the BlackBerry Q5 will be available with either 4G LTE or HSPA+ and will come in a range of colours including; black, white, red and pink.

Size and build

The first thing you notice is that the Q5 is considerably longer than the BlackBerry Q10,
instead of the stockier more compact format the Q5 has been stretched out giving not
only a larger bezel but also allowing the keys to be more spread out. With a plastic frame it would not be unfair to say that the Q5 is a long way from the materials used in the Q10 or even the previous Bold generation. Instead the Q5 is clearly taking inspiration from the Curve with an all plastic body both back and front, whilst on the black version it looks subtle BlackBerry appears to have given the red colour a gloss finish which will almost certainly divide opinion.

Features

Under the hood you’ll find surprisingly similar specs to BlackBerry’s flagship QWERTY
device, whereas the Q10 has a 1.5GHz dual-core processor the Q5 makes do with a
1.2GHz dual-core chip. Both devices feature 2GB of RAM however which should help
with multi-tasking. The 4G LTE version will come with NFC however the HSPA+ version will
not come sporting the wireless technology. Both however will function as a WiFi hotspot.

Screen

The BlackBerry Q5 comes with a 3.1-inch 720x720 LCD display. The key difference there is
that it’s an LCD display not the OLED panel that BlackBerry specifically implemented on
the Q10. The reason will presumably be to cut cost however it will almost certainly have an impact on battery life.

Verdict

Well it will be very interesting to see in the upcoming months that weather it can
compete with the Nokia Lumia phones. But the most shocking thing would be the price
at which BlackBerry will sell. Till all I can say is that it is a really nice smartphone with great
built and good features. With 4G and NFC it can be said as a future-proof device.
